New Book Spells Out Trouble For Tiger !! Grrrr...

By ANDREW ADAM NEWMAN
Published: December 27, 2009

Rejoice, monologue writers — motorists could soon be driving under the influence of Tiger Woods, opening another round of possibilities for late-night talk show hosts.

Tiger Woods recorded parts of “How I Play Golf,” his best seller, which will be released as an audio book in May.

Mr. Woods has been the subject of an almost endless stream of jokes since crashing his sport utility vehicle in his driveway, leading him to acknowledge his marital infidelities and take an indefinite leave from professional golf. Among other things, his skills behind the wheel have been compared to his precision when driving a golf ball.

And now, in what is not a joke, but might sound like a setup for one, Hachette Audio in May will release Mr. Woods’s 2001 best seller, “How I Play Golf,” as an audio book. According to the magazine AudioFile, 53 percent of audio book customers listen to the books while driving.
In the audio book, Mr. Woods shares the “psychological practices he uses daily to keep his game in top shape and help him transcend all the ups and downs of golf,” according to a description in Hachette Audio’s spring-summer 2010 catalog, which was mailed recently to bookstores and journalists.

“The catalog went to bed months before the scandal unfolded,” Anthony Goff, publisher and director of Hachette Audio and Digital Media, wrote in an e-mail message. “We had no idea he’d be all over the news for anything other than his golf game.”

Mr. Woods’s favorability rating has plummeted recently to 33 percent, from a prescandal 85 percent, according to a USA Today/Gallup Poll; advertisers including Accenture, Gillette and Tag Heuer have either dropped him or removed ads that feature him.

The catalog says the book will be promoted with “Father’s Day promotions” like retail display racks — awkward, perhaps, since the fact that Mr. Woods has two young children has intensified the disenchantment of some fans.
“We feel any marital infidelities wouldn’t impact his solid golf advice in the least,” Mr. Goff wrote. “We were selling this title into stores for Father’s Day promotions not for personal relationship advice, but for tips on the game, which are still completely valuable to anyone who knows golf.”
Mr. Woods recorded his portions of the book (some segments are read by the actor Walter Franks) at the time of the hardcover release in 2001, but the audio book was issued only on cassette, and has not been available from the publisher for years. It will be sold on CD and as a digital download.

The audio release was originally scheduled to coincide with a paperback edition of “How I Play Golf,” which has now been postponed, according to Rick Wolff, vice president and executive editor of Grand Central Publishing, an imprint of Hachette.

The decision was made because the hardcover “still sells well,” Mr. Wolff wrote in an e-mail message. “This was postponed long before Tiger ran into his current troubles.”

Pope Viciously Attacked in Christmas Eve TakeDown !!

Those Pesky Vestments Got You Down ?
New Innovation in Heavenly Vestments
"The Popeele Pull Away Pope Peel

(Not Just Another Rip Off !!)

By Ariel David, Associated Press Writer

VATICAN CITY — A woman jumped the barriers in St. Peter's Basilica and knocked down Pope Benedict XVI at the start of Christmas Eve Mass, but the 82-year-old pontiff got up unhurt and proceeded as planned with Thursday's service.

Witness video obtained by The Associated Press showed a woman dressed in a red hooded sweat shirt vaulting over the wooden barriers that cordoned off the basilica's main aisle and rushing toward the pope before being swarmed by bodyguards.

The video showed the woman grabbing the pope's vestments as she was taken down by guards, with Benedict then falling on top of her.

The commotion occurred as the pope's procession was making its way toward the main altar and shocked gasps rang out among the thousands who packed the basilica. The procession came to a halt, the music stopped and security rushed to the trouble spot.

A Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Ciro Benedettini said the woman appeared to be mentally unstable and had been taken into custody by Vatican police. He said she also knocked down Cardinal Roger Etchegaray, who was taken to hospital for a checkup.

"During the procession an unstable person jumped a barrier and knocked down the Holy Father," Benedettini told The AP by telephone. "(The pope) quickly got up and continued the procession."

It was the second year in a row that there had been a security breach at the Christmas Eve service and this was the most serious incident involving the public in Benedict's five-year papacy. At the end of last year's Mass, a woman who had jumped the barriers got close to the pope but was quickly blocked on the ground by security.

That woman too wore a red hooded sweat shirt, but Benedettini said it was not immediately known if the same person was behind Thursday's incident.
MaryBeth Burns from Paris, Texas, was about four people away from the woman who jumped the barriers and was filming the pope's procession as the commotion started.

"All of a sudden this person sort of flew over the barricade and the Holy Father went down and all the security people were on top of it, a whole pile there, getting her off and him back up," said Burns, who was visiting Italy with her family on a religious pilgrimage for Christmas.

"I'm really mad because I had a perfect shot lined up," she added. "I'm still shaking."

Benedict lost his miter and his staff in the fall. He remained on the ground for a few seconds before being helped back up by attendants. At that point, a few shouts of "viva il papa!" (long live the pope!) rang out, followed by cheers from the faithful, witnesses said.

After getting up, Benedict, flanked by tense bodyguards, resumed his walk to the basilica's main altar to start the Mass. The pope, who broke his right wrist in a fall this summer, appeared unharmed but somewhat shaken and leaned heavily on aides and an armrest as he sat down in his chair.

Few people who were watching the Mass on giant screens set up in a rain-soaked St. Peter's Square even knew that the pope had fallen, with many saying that either they weren't looking or had arrived too late...

Benedict made no reference to the disturbance after the service started. As a choir sang, he sprinkled incense on the altar before opening the Mass with the traditional wish for peace in Latin.

...However, Sister Samira, an Indian aide to Vatican officials who attended the service and saw the incident, said she is never searched by security when she attends papal Masses, and said the same holds true for other people in religious garb...

Burns, the U.S. pilgrim, said security had been tight, and that it seemed there was no way to have prevented the woman from getting to the pope other than keeping the public out altogether.

"This is Midnight Mass in the heart of our church," she said. "I guess the Holy Father puts himself at risk every time he's around anybody, any crowds really."

Benedict celebrated this year's Christmas Eve Mass two hours earlier than the usual midnight starting time in a move by the Vatican to ease the pontiff's busy holiday schedule.

Benedict has been remarkably healthy during his pontificate, keeping to a busy schedule and traveling around the world.

In his homily, delivered unflappably after the incident, the pope urged the world to "wake up" from selfishness and petty affairs, and find time for God and spiritual matters.

"To wake up means to leave that private world of one's own and to enter the common reality," Benedict said in Italian. "Conflict and lack of reconciliation in the world stem from the fact that we are locked into our own interests and opinions, into our own little private world."

Benedict's next scheduled appearance is at noon on Christmas Day, when he is to deliver his traditional "Urbi et Orbi" speech (Latin for "To the city and the world") from the basilica's balcony.

Merry Christmas !!

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given:

and the government shall be upon his shoulder:

and his name shall be called

Wonderful, Counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father,

The Prince of Peace."

Isaiah 9:6

Luke 2: 1 - 14
1
In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled.
2
This was the first enrollment, when Quirin'i-us was governor of Syria.
3
And all went to be enrolled, each to his own city.
4
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,
5
to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.
6
And while they were there, the time came for her to be delivered.
7
And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
8
And in that region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9
And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear.
10
And the angel said to them, "Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people;
11
for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
12
And this will be a sign for you: you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger."
13
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
14
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased!"

John 1: 1 - 18
1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2
He was in the beginning with God;
3
all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.
4
In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7
He came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through him.
8
He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light.
9
The true light that enlightens every man was coming into the world.
10
He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world knew him not.
11
He came to his own home, and his own people received him not.
12
But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God;
13
who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father.
15
(John bore witness to him, and cried, "This was he of whom I said, `He who comes after me ranks before me, for he was before me.'")
16
And from his fulness have we all received, grace upon grace.
17
For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18
No one has ever seen God; the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him known.

President Obama Accepts Nobel Peace Prize : EPA THREATENS CONGRESS !!!!

Bring It Up Again And We'll Vote On It !!!

EPA THREAT DOWN !!

EPA THREATENS CONGRESS AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE !!

"If you don't pass this legislation, then ... the EPA is going to have to regulate in this area," the official said. "And it is not going to be able to regulate on a market-based way, so it's going to have to regulate in a command-and-control way, which will probably generate even more uncertainty." OUCH!!

It seems as though, as I have gotten older, and my biological clock has moved into hyper-drive, my life has taken on a new sense of urgency. It may be the new heavy duty water pill that I am on. Or it could just be part and parcel of the kooky cornucopia that is the tapestry of life. I just keeping getting that uneasy feeling that there is something that I should be doing or should have done. Nope. I can't think of anything? Maybe voted for McCain. J/K

My heart hearkens back to the "good ole days". The holidays, when time was spent raising an active family. Nevertheless, it looks like I'll be making Thanksgiving Dinner once again. Or maybe not. Just once I would like to break out of the mold and perhaps go to an all-you-can-eat Seafood Buffet. While this may be fairly common in Florida, it doesn't sit too well in the Mid-West.

Although Michigan has the world's largest supply of fresh water the closest thing to seafood that we have is Crawfish. Crawfish are not found in abundance though, so there goes that idea. But a good bodacious all encompassing Seafood Bar is all-you-could-ask-for. Not being a Gulf state, Michigan is left scrambling for Seafood such as Shrimp. If you order a Shrimp Basket, generally you get those little Shrimps with the crapola still in the backside. Just like so many things in life, you are best left eating away and not paying any attention. Shrimp Buckets are out too. Too much crappy crapola Shrimp !!

I once scrimped and saved and scampered out to order Shrimp Scampi but they skimped on the Shrimp and the Scampi had skimpy, shrimpy, Shrimp which left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Figuratively speaking, that is. While the world is still my Oyster, I am not taking any chances. Seafood Buffet, here I come...

Feast of The Immaculate Conception !! How I Roll !!

The Immaculate Conception
Luke 1: 26 - 38
26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,

27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

28 And he came to her and said, "Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!"

29 But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be.

30 And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.

31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.

32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to
him the throne of his father David,

33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there will be no end."

34 And Mary said to the angel, "How shall this be, since I have no husband?"

35 And the angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.

36 And behold, your kinswoman Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.

37 For with God nothing will be impossible."

38 And Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.

Sunday Morning Son Shine !! God Bless and Protect Our Troops !!

THE MUSIC STOPPED

For those who are unaware: At all military base theaters, the National Anthem is played before the movie begins.

This is written by a Chaplain in Iraq :

I recently attended a showing of 'Superman 3' here at LSA Anaconda. We have a large auditorium we use for movies, as well as memorial services and other large gatherings.

As is the custom at all military bases, we stood to attention when the National Anthem began before the main feature.

All was going well until three-quarters of the way through The National Anthem, the music stopped. Now, what would happen if this occurred with 1,000 18-22 year-olds back in the States? I imagine there would be hoots, catcalls, laughter, a few rude comments, and everyone would sit down and yell for the movie to begin. Of course, that is, if they had stood for the National Anthem in the first place.
Here in Iraq , 1,000 Soldiers continued to stand at attention, eyes fixed forward. The music started again and the Soldiers continued to quietly stand at attention. But again, at the same point, the music stopped. What would you expect 1,000 Soldiers standing at attention to do?? Frankly, I expected some laughter, and everyone would eventually sit down and wait for the movie to start. But No!!...

You could have heard a pin drop, while every Soldier continued to stand at attention.

Suddenly, there was a lone voice from the front of the auditorium, then a dozen voices, and soon the room was filled with the voices of a thousand soldiers, finishing where the recording left off: "And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave, o'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave."

It was the most inspiring moment I have had in Iraq and I wanted you to know what kind of Soldiers are serving you. Remember them as they fight for us!

Pass this along as a reminder to others to be ever in prayer for all our soldiers serving us here at home and abroad. Many have already paid the ultimate price.

World War II Veteran Van T. Barfoot Fights for His Flagpole in Richmond, Virginia

What A "Real American Hero" Looks Like !!!

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.

The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know,

Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.

Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.

"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts..

To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night."
"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.

No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at 'Pearl on a day in December,"
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam ',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.

I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.

I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,

I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."

"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.
